STRESS AND GUT HEALTH

I wanted to do this post as a lot of people including myself have been suffering from digestive problems. Alot of these issues can be caused by stress. The brain and the gut are in communication and have a very close relationship.  When we are stressed our brain sends signals for chemicals such as adrenaline, serotonin (a hormone that affects mood and is found in the digestive system) as well as the stress hormone cortisol to be released. Ever suffered from cramping, or inflammation? Then this could be the cause…. if left untreated then it can turn into irritable bowl, or peptic ulcers.

Here are some tips that may prevent or help some digestive issues that may be caused by stress.

  1. Introduce more plant based food into your diet they are high in fibre and will fill you up. Examples of these foods are Vegetables, Nuts, Fruit and Seeds. Ensure you drink plenty of water when adding extra fibre into your diet too!
  2. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol if you can. Stick to water
  3. Now days we are always in a rush, life is hectic. We need to learn to pump the breaks and slow down even when it comes to food. Chew your food this will help and take it a little easier on the digestive system
  4. Exercise! The list of positives for your digestive system when its simulated by exercise is HUGE
  5. Probiotics – are good bacteria that are found in you gut. They can be found in yogurts and fermented foods that help with your digestion
  6. Yoga and Meditation. This will help focus on your mental health and self-care (this is the fastest way to ensure your feeling better)
  7. Sleep – getting a good quality sleep each night is important in supporting your gut health and reduces stress levels

Here is a recipe that will help give your digestive system a BOOST

GUT BOOSTER SHOT

  • Pinch of ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar

Mix the ingredients together and drink immediately
